Of course, if you notice any performance issues sooner, then a service and/or regas may be required before then. While it may seem an inconvenience, remember that the small cost of regular maintenance can prevent much larger repair bills down the line.

Get the most from your car's climate control with our air conditioning top tips for optimal everyday usage… 

Hot and Cold Weather Advice: 

1. Use a windscreen sunshade when parked.
2. Open your windows for 2-3 minutes before turning on the air con when your car has been parked in hot weather.
3. Start with the fan on high and the temperature on low to remove hot air quickly.
4. Set the temperature to around 21-22°C for optimal comfort and efficiency thereafter.
5. Keep the 'recirculation' button on for at least 15 minutes to cool the car faster.
6. Avoid setting the temperature too low as this strains the system unnecessarily.
7. Position vents towards the roof for the most effective cooling (cold air sinks).
8. Run your car's AC system for at least 10 minutes every week, even in winter, to help maintain the system's seals and components.
9. Keep external air vents clear of leaves and debris.
10. Use the air con alongside heating to prevent the windows from fogging.
