Why Regular Air Conditioning Maintenance Matters
Just like any other part of your vehicle, your air conditioning system needs regular attention to perform at its best.
We often get asked by customers if it’s worth getting the air conditioning serviced, and our answer is always, yes! Regular air conditioning servicing offers several important benefits, including: Â
Maintaining optimal cooling performance in the cabin, improving overall fuel efficiency, preventing unpleasant odours, ensuring clear windows in wet weather, removing harmful bacteria and allergens, and of course, reducing the risk of expensive repairs.
Signs Your Air Con Needs Attention:
Don't wait until your air conditioning stops working completely. Book a check-up if you notice any of the five following issues:
- Reduced cooling performance
- Unusual noises when the air con is running
- Unpleasant odours from the vents
- Windows taking longer to clear
- Higher fuel consumption
When is it Time for an Air Con Recharge?
You may be surprised to know that a car’s AC loses approximately 10-15% of its refrigerant gas each year. That’s why we recommend that an air conditioning system should ideally be serviced every two to three years.    Â
Of course, if you notice any performance issues sooner, then a service and/or regas may be required before then. While it may seem an inconvenience, remember that the small cost of regular maintenance can prevent much larger repair bills down the line.
If your car needs frequent regassing (more than every two years), this could indicate a leak in the system that needs to be repaired. Our qualified technicians can perform a leak test to identify and fix any issues.Â

Hot and Cold Weather Advice:Â
- Use a windscreen sunshade when parked.
- Open your windows for 2-3 minutes before turning on the air con when your car has been parked in hot weather.
- Start with the fan on high and the temperature on low to remove hot air quickly.
- Set the temperature to around 21-22°C for optimal comfort and efficiency thereafter.
- Keep the 'recirculation' button on for at least 15 minutes to cool the car faster.
- Avoid setting the temperature too low as this strains the system unnecessarily.
- Position vents towards the roof for the most effective cooling (cold air sinks).
- Run your car's AC system for at least 10 minutes every week, even in winter, to help maintain the system's seals and components.
- Keep external air vents clear of leaves and debris.
- Use the air con alongside heating to prevent the windows from fogging.Â
